Exceptional Child: Early Childhood Special Education

This program prepares you to teach and support young children from birth through third grade with exceptional learning needs. 

You’ll have the opportunity to:
/ Work in classrooms with infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and primary-aged children
/ Add certification in Elementary Education (grades 1–6)
/ Take specialized courses in early intervention, family partnerships, and inclusive practices

Exceptional Child: Mild/Moderate Cross Categorical

Prepare to serve K–12 students with mild to moderate disabilities across a variety of educational settings. 

You’ll have the opportunity to:
/ Become certified to teach special education across kindergarten through 12th grade
/ Tailor your coursework with electives in behavior management, autism spectrum disorders, and academic interventions
/ Add certification in Elementary Education (grades 1–6)

Elementary Education

The Elementary Education program prepares you to teach students in grades one through six through a combination of classroom learning and time spent working directly in schools. 

You’ll have the opportunity to:
/ Take courses focused on topics like autism, English language learners, family engagement, and special education
/ Complete your student teaching in international settings such as Iquique, Chile 
/ Join the ranks of SEMO alumni often recognized by principals as well-prepared for the classroom
